چکیده

We study the effect of representation mixing in the SU(3) Skyrme model by diagonalizing exactly the representation-dependent part. It is observed that even without the next-to-leading order symmetry breaking terms the low-lying baryon masses as well as the recently discovered Θ and Ξ1̄0 can be fairly well reproduced within 3% accuracy. It is also demonstrated that the mixing effect is not negligible in decay processes of {1̄0}. In particular the effect of mixing with {27} is found to be quite large. These results are compatible with the second-order perturbation scheme. The decay widths are found to be sensitive to the mass values. The decay widths of {1̄0} are estimated to be smaller than those of {10} by an order of magnitude due to the destructive interference between operators although the kinematic factors are comparable.

Baryon exotics in the quark model, the skyrme model, and QCD.

We derive the quantum numbers of baryon exotics in the quark model and the Skyrme model and show that they agree for arbitrary colors and flavors. We define exoticness E, which can be used to classify the states. The exotic baryons include the recently discovered qqqqq pentaquarks (E=1), as well as exotic baryons with additional qq pairs (E>/=1). The mass formula for nonexotic and exotic baryon...

Exotic baryon resonances in the Skyrme model

We outline how one can understand the Skyrme model from the modern perspective. We review the quantization of the SU(3) rotations of the Skyrmion, leading to the exotic baryons that cannot be made of three quarks. It is shown that in the limit of large number of colours the lowest-mass exotic baryons can be studied from the kaon-Skyrmion scattering amplitudes, an approach known after Callan and...

The Hopf Skyrmion in QCD with Adjoint Quarks

We consider a modification of QCD in which conventional fundamental quarks are replaced by Weyl fermions in the adjoint representation of the color SU(N). In the case of two flavors the low-energy chiral Lagrangian is that of the Skyrme–Faddeev model. The latter supports topologically stable solitons with mass scaling as N. Topological stability is due to the existence of a nontrivial Hopf inva...

Justifying the Exotic Θ

The existence of a light S =+1 baryon resonance follows from Quantum Field Theory applied to baryons. This is illustrated in the Skyrme model (where Θ exists but is too strong) and in a new mean field approach where Θ arises as a consequence of three known resonances: Λ(1405), N(1440) and N(1535).

Exotic Baryons and Monopole Excitations in a Chiral Soliton Model

and 3 2 + baryons in a chiral soliton model. Once the low–lying baryon properties are fit, the other states are predicted without any more adjustable parameters. This approach naturally leads to a scenario in which the mass spectrum of the next to lowest–lying J = 1 2 + states is fairly well approximated by the ideal mixing pattern of the 8⊕10 representation of flavor SU(3). We compare our resu...
